It's Spring Quarter!
We are now accepting suggestions for our next speaker for the WIS sponsored faculty dinner taking place in late-April. E-mail Keren at keren@uchicago.edu with your suggestions (including contact information of the speaker).

Additionally, if you are interested in being on a Committee for next year (Events, Service, AWIS), please e-mail Keren at keren@uchicago.edu.

Also, four new service events have been posted. You can sign-up to participate in these events by e-mailing Stephanie at scsmith@uchicago.edu with your name, the event you would like to participate in, and your e-mail address. A summary of these events can be found either in the "events" section or here.

Scholarship applications are still being accepted for the 2004 Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service, one of the premier summer programs for undergraduate students interested in volunteerism and careers in the nonprofit sector. This dynamic program will be held in Washington, DC from June 5 July 31, 2004. Applications due March 15th, 2004!! Click here for more information.

Also, Be a Peer Health Educator! If you want an opportunity to experience preventative health in action, and build skills in effective health education and communication through working with campus peers then this is the staff position for you!

The March 9th administration meeting has been cancelled! It will now be integrated with the pot-luck dinner that will be taking place at Keren's on Sunday night --> 3/14; 8:00 pm.

*Rebecca: Faculty suggestions for dinners next quarter, any other news?

*Events Coordinators: delegate like we said, the different responsibilties for the next 2 faculty dinners and gala

Upcoming Events:
THIS SUNDAY 3/14: WIS Potluck @ Keren's apt-- in the evening probably 8ish Wrap up the quarter, final thoughts and assesments of winter quarter, brainstorming for spring-- come to relax, chill, eat, and destress before finals.

FIRST WEEK: WEEK OF 3/29: Events committee needs to meet to decide on faculty speakers: let's aim for two dinners (4th week and 8th or 9th week) Gala: we need to hear back from Nancy asap- if not we will aim for a smaller formal function this year and a big gala for next year: however we need to put this in our budget so we need to decide pronto.

TUESDAY 4/6: @ 6:00 First meeting of next quarter- Caroline please reserve room

Kay Behrensmeyer, vertebrate paleontologist and taphonomist, has worked extensively toward understanding the context and environment of human evolution in East Africa and Pakistan. She has also served as Associate Director for Science at the National Museum of Natural History and is co- director of the museum’s Evolution of Terrestrial Ecosystems program.

Join us for dinner and dessert as she shares field stories, exciting fossil finds, and reflections on how the field of paleontology has changed for women.

thanks to everyone who made it to the meeting yesterday for our first faculty dinner! we got a lot done and delegated some tasks to those who couldn't make it. please read this ENTIRE email.

1. the facts:
as you know Kay Berehnsmayer will be our speaker for dinner and dessert on wednesday march 3 at 6pm. talk this up to your friends! mention it at your lab section, house meeting, reading group, athletic practice, keg party, etc. also mention it to FACULTY. remember as a board member, you are REQUIRED to attend this event and bring 4 people.

2. advertising:
additionally, Barb has designed some lovely posters that you must obtain from her this afternoon. if you are an undergrad, you have gotten assigned a little slice of the campus where you will put up posters (see below). please stop by Hutch Commons TODAY from 2:30-3 to pick up posters from Barb. if you can't make it then, look for her later in the afternoon cruising around Reynolds club and Mandel Hall. also you can call her to make other arrangements at 201-452-0675 (thanks Barb!). it is imperative that we advertise well for this event, so please get the posters up!

3. the format:
we will begin setup at 5. food and KB arrive at 5.45. our plethora of attendees trickle in and get food from 6 - 6.20. KB talks for about 20 mins. Q + A follows. then dessert and mingling. cleanup must be done by 9.

4. setup/cleanup crews:
setup (approx 5-6pm): Caroline, Alison, Susan, Sully, Tanya, Rebecca, Keren cleanup (8-9pm): Lucy, Nicole, Maya, Catherine, Nancy, Barb, Stephanie if you don't like or are unable to make your assigned crew, please just switch with someone.

5. other tasks:
BARB please email the list of listhosts to NANCY so she can get those out.
SUSAN will bring a projector
SURANGI will bring KB to Ida Noyes and give her intro
ALISON will be contact for food delivery
REBECCA will bring that tasty pre-dinner beverage

6. phew. I hope I got everything. please let me know if I didn't mention something we discussed yesterday, or if there is a blatant error, or if you have a funny joke to share. have a great weekend!!
