First Annual Benefit Gala
Women in Science, University of Chicago chapter, cordially invites you to our
first annual Benefit Gala featuring Keynote Speaker, Janet Rowley. Our theme
this year is Celebrating Achievements: Women of the University of Chicago.
The event is intended to bring the science community together in support of
women in science and to enable local schools to give their students a head
start on their path to success. All proceeds will go to The Young Women’s
Leadership Charter School of Chicago to inspire and encourage urban girls to
pursue math and science oriented fields.
We would love to have you attend and join us for this exciting evening. The
event will take place at the
Hotel Monaco (225 N. Wabash) at 6:00 pm, on the
21st of May, 2004. Dress is business casual. Dinner and drinks will be served
at no fee, though any contribution to YWLC is greatly appreciated. If you are
able to attend, please RSVP to either myself, Alla Rubinstein
(
alla@uchicago.edu), or our president, Keren Ladin
(
keren@uchicago.edu), as soon as possible (
Note:
The RSVP deadline of May 11 has been extended! New ticket pick-up dates are May 17th and 18th).
We hope to see you there!
As this is a benefit event, we ask that you make a $5
donation that will go to YWLCS. You can make this donation
when you pick up your ticket in the Reynolds Club on May 17th and 18th.
about YWLCS:
The Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago,
located on the South Side of Chicago, is a public school
that inspires and encourages urban girls to pursue math and
science. Established in 1999, their mission is to provide a
rigorous college preparatory education focusing on math,
science, technology and the development. An ethnically
and economically diverse student population hails from all
parts of Chicago and 327 girls are presently enrolled
in grades 7-12. Students at YWLCS enjoy a well-rounded
curriculum through inquiry-based teaching, and have special
opportunities to intern in Chicago-area businesses and
participate in individual mentorships with successful
professional women. Though the school receives public
funds, YWLCS depends on private contributions in order
to provide their students with a premier education that
will ensure their success in college and beyond.
For more information on YWLCS, especially if you are
